Four larger outbreaks at Frisian companies; GGD sees a connection with not meeting working from home

There are four companies in Friesland with a major corona outbreak with at least ten active infections. GGD Fryslân will let you know when asked. The health service sees a connection with the fact that Frisians work relatively little at home.

For privacy reasons, the GGD does not disclose the names of companies with outbreaks. Companies must come out with this themselves. Outbreaks are known at yacht builder Wajer Yachts in Heeg and with the laundry Rentex in Bolsward , which washes clothes for hospitals and other healthcare institutions, among other things.

According to GGD spokesperson Marcel de Jong, there have been clusters of at least three infections at numerous companies for a month. “We see that all over the province, in all kinds of sectors. In transport, construction, the laundry sector, the boat sector, agriculture, production companies, in food processing and also in supermarkets. ”

‘Working from home not an option’

A survey by the RIVM shows that almost half of the Frisians questioned say that working from home is not an option for them. That is more than in other parts of the country.

According to the GGD, the presence of the more contagious British variant makes compliance with the corona rules more important than ever. According to the GGD, the RIVM survey shows that quite a few Frisians have difficulty with this. One in three says they do not always keep a distance of 1.5 meters and an equal share does not always avoid busy places.

More than half of the Frisians find it especially difficult to keep a visit away. At the same time, most residents of Friesland think that others are approaching them too close while shopping.

“Are they complying sufficiently with the measures?”

According to figures from the RIVM, 10 to 15 percent of the infections have been caused in the workplace since 1 September. “You can of course see that it is difficult to work from home in most of the sectors mentioned, such as transport, construction and production companies,” says De Jong. “Then you can ask yourself: are they adhering to the measures sufficiently. We want to focus more on that. ”
