BIn a dispute between two families, shots were fired in Darmstadt and four men were injured. The police arrested four suspected men between the ages of 24 and 56 shortly after the crime on Thursday evening. Prosecutors and police announced Friday night that protracted disputes between the two related families led to the escalation.
In the course of a large-scale search and targeted traffic controls, the police arrested two women in the evening, it was said. “To what extent these are connected with the crime has yet to be determined,” said a police spokeswoman during the night. They still had to be clarified whether they were just witnesses or themselves involved in the act.
At around 5:00 p.m., witnesses alarmed the police and reported a clash between several people and shooting noises. The police found three injured men aged 29, 31 and 35 at the scene. Two of them reportedly suffered gunshot wounds. Another was injured with a truncheon. Everyone came to hospitals. The men are out of danger. In addition, a 58-year-old man was slightly injured in the conflict.
The police raided several apartments in Griesheim in Hesse and in Darmstadt-Kranichstein, as it was said. The murder weapon was not found. Another apartment was searched during the night, a police spokeswoman said.
Because of the incident, a “major police operation” was underway in the Kranichstein district. Rescue workers with bulletproof vests, helmets and submachine guns were seen on the streets. A police helicopter was in use. According to the investigators, the four suspects were arrested during vehicle inspections in Büttelborn and Darmstadt and near the crime scene. The police did not provide any further information on their identity or the identity of the injured.
The course of the dispute and the number of participants and their nationality also remained unclear after the incident. The police also could not say whether several parties to the dispute fired shots. The investigators had called on Twitter to bypass the crime scene in the area of Parkstrasse. Evidence is running there, witnesses are interviewed.
“Dynamic” process
The crime scene is located in a quiet part of Kranichstein with single-family houses, not in the newer, predominantly high-rise area. A section of the narrow road several hundred meters long in the area near riding stables and meadows was cordoned off. Police experts secured traces. The crime took about 300 meters along Parkstrasse; a police spokeswoman called the process “dynamic”. Perpetrators and victims are said to have walked down the street. Onlookers photographed the scenery with their cell phones.
