Football almost around the clock: The already extraordinary game plan for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has been expanded to include other special features. As the FIFA World Cup announced on Wednesday, the group stage (November 21 to December 2) will kick off four games a day – with the exception of the last group match day at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. CET.
The opening game at Al Bayt Stadium on a Monday is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. The final in front of 80,000 fans at the Lusail Stadium will kick off on December 18 at 4 p.m. The Qatar finals had been scheduled for the winter of 2022 due to the expected summer heat. The exact allocation of the games takes place after the draw in order to find the best possible kick-off time for the respective nations. World Cup qualification in Europe will start in ten groups in March 2021.
32 teams took part in the World Cup in Qatar for the last time before the tournament was increased to 48 teams four years later.
