Four-day work week to be tested in UK

A pilot four-day work week in the UK will start in June and run for six months. About 30 companies have already signed up to participate in the trial. Employees of these companies will be allowed to work 32 hours a week, leaving their compensation and benefits unchanged.

“Switching to a four-day week would be a win-win for companies. Studies have shown that productivity increases with a corresponding increase in worker welfare,” said Joe Ryle, director of the Four Day Week campaign in the UK.

Ryle said similar programs should begin in the US and Ireland, with more planned in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
