Four charged after police uncover drugs, weapons stockpile in Langford

Police Seize Arsenal, Drugs, and Make Arrests

A recent investigation by the Victoria Police Department resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of weapons, ammunition, and illicit substances, leading to multiple charges against four individuals. The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities within the community.

Details of the Operation

Following a covert drug trafficking probe, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a residence in Langford on June 25, 2024. The raid uncovered a substantial cache of weaponry and narcotics. Among the items seized were 20 firearms, over 20,000 rounds of ammunition, $27,000 in cash, two sets of ballistic armor, and 4.5 kilograms of cocaine.

On June 11, 2025, Crown counsel approved charges against Kelt Haymes, Lain Babin, Sarah Bonin, and Abigail Lopez. This case highlights the critical role of law enforcement in maintaining public safety and removing dangerous elements from neighborhoods.

According to the latest data from the Department of Justice, drug-related arrests have increased by 15% nationwide over the last year, reflecting an escalation in substance-related crime (Department of Justice).

The Charges

Haymes faces charges including possessing a prohibited firearm with ammunition, careless firearm storage (two counts), unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, and possession of cocaine for trafficking. Babin is charged with cocaine trafficking (two counts) and possession for trafficking. Bonin faces one count of cocaine trafficking, and Lopez is charged with possession of cocaine for trafficking.

Community Impact

The Victoria Police Department’s Chief, Del Manak, praised the collaborative work of the GIS officers, strike force, and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, along with civilian staff. He emphasized their collective efforts in securing charges and eliminating dangerous weapons and drugs from the community.
