A “time capsule” is also buried in the foundation when the foundation stone is laid. In addition to a bottle of Cobenzl wine, it will also contain a typical contemporary utensil: a CoV protective mask. The opening of the completely renovated area is planned for autumn 2022.
The capsule is intended to demonstrate confidence that the future will be a good one despite the terrible pandemic, it said: “One of the most beautiful and unique places that our capital has to offer is now finally being breathed new life and given back to the Viennese.” The project operates under the name “Weitsicht Cobenzl”. The Motto Group joined the company in September of the previous year after entrepreneur Martin Rohla retired in 2020.
Around 20 million euros are being invested
Apart from the grandiose view, the location had presented itself rather uninviting in the past few years. The Rondell Cafe, for example, was already extremely desolate. It has since been torn down.
According to Schlacher, who also operates the “Motto on the River”, it will be rebuilt in a similar form on the historical foundations. A publicly accessible terrace on the roof of the cafe was also announced. The castle and dairy are completely renovated. A new building is being built for events and celebrations.
An external investor is investing around 20 million euros in the Cobenzl ensemble. The city assumes 2.5 million euros of this for the additional costs that arise for the operators due to the CoV crisis, as the responsible city councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky (SPÖ) had recently announced. The property will become the property of the City of Vienna in 30 years.
