More than half of the respondents (54 percent) in a current Forsa survey are worried that a family member will have to spend the holidays in bed or even in a clinic – be it because of Covid-19 or another illness.
Hanover / District – 41 percent fear that they will have to celebrate the festival in small groups or even alone because of the pandemic. Almost one in four (23 percent) worries that they will not be able to travel over the holidays. In a comparable survey two years ago, 44 percent were afraid of illness at Christmas, and no questions were asked about loneliness or travel. The opinion research institute Forsa carried out the representative survey on behalf of the Kaufmännische Krankenkasse (KKH) among around 1000 people in Germany.
Digital communication creates less stress
In 2018, around one in four felt stressed by digital Christmas wishes, pictures and videos that were shared via WhatsApp & Co., in the Corona year it is only 15 percent. “Not surprising, because digital communication is currently often the only way to stay in contact,” says the KKH.

More serenity in terms of Christmas dinner and festive perfectionism
The rush in the city centers burdened almost half of the respondents in 2018, and at the beginning of November 2020 only just under a third – today more likely out of fear of being infected. In some points, people are apparently more relaxed in Corona times: Only 10 percent of the meal planning and the right to a perfect party feel under pressure (2018: 17 percent).

Pessimistic view of New Year’s Eve
Even if there are no political decisions yet, respondents are pessimistic about New Year’s Eve. 56 percent fear that they will have to forego toasting with relatives and friends because of Corona. (dpa)
