Formula 1 surprises with new calendar with eighteen Grands Prix

The first eight races on that calendar have been known for some time. The Formula 1 ball will start in Austria next week, after which it will eventually arrive in Monza, Italy via Hungary, Great Britain, Spain and Belgium. Eight races in ten weekends. Spicy, but necessary to still have a full Formula 1 season.

But after these eight races, the season is not even finished. Behind the scenes, the Formula 1 bosses are working with all their might to launch a series of Grands Prix. They soon indicated that they were aiming for fifteen to eighteen races.

That seems to become reality now, according to various media. After a few extra races in Europe, to be precise in Italy, Russia and Portugal, Formula 1 goes international, it seems. Trips to North America (October) and Asia (November) follow the European season, with a double race in China and finally a triptych in the Middle East, which will also cover Bahrain twice.

If it is not possible to race in Russia, a Grand Prix in Germany serves as a possible replacement. The second Chinese Grand Prix may also be replaced by a GP in Vietnam. Finally, the Grand Prix in the United States is not yet certain, because of the corona virus that still roams there. In the unlikely event that a few GPs do not go through, Formula 1 can still meet its goal of fifteen race weekends.
