Causa Vettel: Which speaks for a resignation
In his piece of opinion, editor-in-chief Christian Nimmervoll worked out in detail after the Ferrari announcement how his exclusive story came about and what speaks for the retirement of the four-time world champion. If you only read one story today, this one!

Sebastian Vettel has completed 101 races for the Scuderia Ferrari since 2015. Before the start of the 2020 season, he had 14 wins, 12 pole positions and a total of 54 podiums in red. We look back over the past five years!

Wolff on the “Sebastian Vettel variant”
In the previous post I also raised the question: What will Sebastian Vettel do in the future? The Heppenheimer seem to run out of options. Only a move to Mercedes could extend his Formula One career – the doors at Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren have closed this week.
“I believe that Sebastian has everything under control. He can decide whether he wants to quit or whether he will be with another team. There are still some interesting places,” commented Mercedes team manager Toto Wolff about the situation in ‘ ORF ‘conversation.
The Viennese has already drawn attention during the week with statements regarding Vettel’s Ferrari separation. Such a development “Mercedes” can not ignore. Now he adds: “Of course, a German driver in a German vehicle may be a good marketing story, but we are primarily focused on performance.”
Vettel was a really good driver, but Mercedes had to follow the “long-term strategy” when choosing a driver, “which we have always followed in recent years”. That could mean that you look at your own offspring first.
“That’s why the question for us is what we do with George Russell. It’s an option. And then there’s a Sebastian Vettel variant.” However, he also emphasizes that this is not a top priority. Postscript: “Because we have to concentrate on our own driver squad.”

Alonso: Renault pre-contract already signed?
This week Formula 1 got going again – at least off the racetrack. First we reported exclusively on the separation of Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari on Monday evening, later on the change from Carlos Sainz to Ferrari and Daniel Ricciardo to McLaren.
Now a few questions remain: What is Sebastian Vettel doing? And who grabs the free Renault space? The French newspaper ‘Auto Hebdo’ reports: “Alonso back to Renault .. if Renault stays in Formula 1?” The article also says: “Several sources have confirmed serious discussions between the Iberian and his former team.”
Addendum: “A preliminary contract could already have been signed.” Whether this is true can currently not be seriously assessed. But the paper has uncovered leaks in the past – such as the move from Esteban Ocon to Renault.
The fact is: the name Alonso has been buzzing across the media a lot since this week. The Spaniard himself has fueled rumors with his tweets. Expert Martin Brundle can also imagine the double world champion returning. However, it is questionable whether the team will survive the corona crisis at all, because even before that the factory team was not on a solid footing.
