In May, Simon Vaernewyck was diagnosed with kidney cancer. The outlook is bleak, but the 32-year-old bartender and musician was optimistic from day one. His dream is still the same as when he participated in ‘The Voice van Vlaanderen’ in 2016: breaking through with his own songs. At the end of February he released ‘De Kuur’, with which he wants to make cancer a subject of discussion. “The doctors now give me a maximum of five years, but I remain positive.”
