José Azevedo Pereira, who was director general of the Tax Authority, will rise to the presidency of Eurobic, assuming the place hitherto occupied by former Finance Minister Fernando Teixeira dos Santos. The news is advanced by Eco newspaper, this Tuesday, which adds that the name has already been approved by the Bank of Portugal and, therefore, should be confirmed at the general meeting that is convened for 14 September.
EuroBic is in the process of being sold, a process that, according to Eco, has “known developments in recent weeks” after the Spanish Abanca gave up. Fearing that the sale process will drag on for a long time, however, Banco de Portugal, now led by Mário Centeno, pushed for the formation of an executive team to replace the team of Fernando Teixeira dos Santos, whose term ended in December.
Fernando Teles, Rui Pedras, Pedro Almeida e Silva and Bernardo Espírito Santo should leave the current board of directors. Manuel da Luz will continue as financial administrator and José Azevedo Pereira, who arrived at the bank just over a year ago to take on the risk portfolio, becomes president. Duarte Pitta Ferraz, in turn, will chair the audit committee and Pedro Maia rises from non-executive director to chairman.
