Former IOC director general François Carrard has died

Carrard had a long career with the IOC. In 1979 he joined the association as a legal advisor, which is responsible for the organization and supervision of the Olympic Summer and Winter Games. From 1989 to 2003 he was General Manager. He worked with IOC presidents Juan Antonio Samaranch and Jacques Rogge.

At the IOC he was involved in dealing with the corruption scandal surrounding the award of the 2002 Winter Games to Salt Lake City. In 2015 he was appointed president of a reform working group of the world football association Fifa. He headed a 14-person group of experts who, following bribery and corruption scandals, made proposals for far-reaching structural renewals in the world football association.

Carrard was also a jazz fan. Among other things, he chaired the Board of Trustees of the Montreux Jazz Festival.
