“Entering the forest is like stepping into the heart of a soul,” said the French poet Paul Claudel. But what does this soul look like, what does the forest look like in Baden-Württemberg today? The photographer Ulrike Klumpp set out to focus on the seven growth areas of Baden-Württemberg. Accompanied by Gabriele Wicht-Lückge, head of silviculture at the Landesbetrieb Forst Baden-Württemberg (ForstBW), they went from the Black Forest via the Upper Rhine lowlands to the Odenwald, the Neckarland, to Baar-Wutach, to the Swabian Jura and to the south-west German foothills of the Alps. Ulrike Klumpp has portrayed these forests in over a hundred unique photographs. The pictures show how beautiful the forest in the country is – managed in harmony with nature. In her accompanying texts, author Gabriele Wicht-Lückge gives an insight into the essential characteristics of the forest types and characterizes them for the respective region: a book for those who love forests, for people who are close to nature and for lovers of beautiful landscape photography.
