“Forest Fires in Canada Causes Red Sun Phenomenon in US Sky: Experts Confirm”

In the last few days, the sky of the United States (US) has been treated to a captivating and at the same time apprehensive sight with the presence of a red sun.

This amazing phenomenon, seen in the sky from New York to Illinois. A number of experts have confirmed that the change in the color of the sun to red is related to the forest fires that hit the Alberta region, Canada.

Quoted from Daily Mail, Wednesday (24/3/2023) more than 90 forest fires hit the Province of Alberta, Canada which burned more than 800 thousand hectares of land. The widespread impact of these fires creates smoke particles. The fog created by the drifting smoke is expected to persist for several more days.

Meteorologists explain that the smoke particles selectively scatter shorter wavelengths of light, allowing red and orange rays to dominate the sky, resulting in a red appearance of the Sun.

These forest fires were sparked by unusually dry spring conditions and an intense heat wave. As many as 30 thousand people had to be evacuated from western Canada.

The impact has crossed national boundaries. Residents in Montana and eastern Colorado, USA were asked by the National Weather Service (NWS) to stay indoors due to very unhealthy air quality.

“If the smoke gets thicker you should stay indoors. This warning especially applies to those with heart disease, respiratory ailments, infants and toddlers and the elderly,” the NSW warning read as quoted by the Daily Mail.

NWS reassured New Yorkers that the billowing smoke does not pose a health risk to individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

“A very red sun rising over New York. This is due to all the fire smoke spreading above us which is coming from the wildfires in Canada,” said the NWS.

However, local officials are optimistic that cooler temperatures and rain expected in the following week will help fight the forest fires.
