The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison

A Turkish citizen knocked down two women on bicycles at night, one of whom died. The suspect was detained by border guards when he tried to leave the country.

In the Chernihiv region, on the night of May 3, a truck driver hit two cyclists moving in the same direction. The culprit of the accident fled from the scene and tried to leave Ukraine, informs press service of the police of the Chernihiv region.

“As the dispatcher of emergency medical care told the police, an unknown car ran into two 33-year-old local women and disappeared. The doctors took them to the central regional hospital in Gorodnya. One of the women died in the hospital from her injuries,” the statement said.

At the scene of the accident, law enforcement officers found wreckage of a truck and two damaged bicycles.

All the squads of the Chernihiv District Police Department were focused on finding the driver. From the border guards of the Chernigov detachment, information was received that a Turkish citizen is trying to leave through the Senkovka checkpoint. He is at the wheel of a truck with damage typical of an accident. Border guards detained the driver before the arrival of the police.

The intoxication test showed that a 36-year-old foreigner had 0.9 ppm of alcohol in his body.

Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 3 of Art. 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic safety rules in a state of intoxication, resulting in the death of a person).

The attacker faces imprisonment for a term of five to 10 years.
