Foreclosures on habitual residences hit lowest in two years after falling 14%

It is the second decrease in habitual residence foreclosures after seven quarters of increases, according to foreclosure statistics released on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The main objective of this statistic is to offer, on a quarterly basis, the number of foreclosure deeds initiated and registered in the Property Registers during the reference quarter. Statistics remind that not all foreclosures end with the release (eviction) of their landlords.

In the third quarter of this year, 4,105 foreclosures were initiated, 38.3% fewer than in the same period of 2021 and 42.3% fewer than in the second quarter of 2022. Of these, 3,917 involved urban farms (including houses) and 188 to rustic farms.

Foreclosures on urban real estate decreased 37.3% year over year in the third quarter and 41.7% from the previous quarter. Within urban farms, 2,884 executions matched housing, 29.9% fewer than in the third quarter of 2021 and 37.2% fewer than the previous quarter.
