Ford Recalls Nearly One Million Vehicles in North America Due to Fuel Pump Failure Risk
Ford is initiating a notable recall affecting close to one million vehicles across Canada and the United States. the issue stems from a potential failure of the low-pressure fuel pump, which coudl lead to engine stalling while driving and consequently increase the risk of a crash.

Ford plans to notify affected owners by mail starting Monday, alerting them to the safety risks associated with potential fuel pump failure. However, a definitive remedy is still under development, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall report. An estimated timeline for the availability of a fix has not yet been provided. Owners will receive a subsequent notification with instructions to visit an authorized dealer for the necessary service, which will be performed at no cost.
While Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries directly linked to this recall, owners are advised to be vigilant for potential warning signs. These may include poor engine performance, such as a check engine light illumination or a noticeable decrease in engine power, prior to a complete fuel pump failure.
The recall report indicates that fuel pump failure is more likely to occur in warmer weather or when the fuel tank is low. internal contamination of the vehicle’s jet pump is cited as a contributing factor, alongside other potential causes, including supplier changes identified during a review of the manufacturing process.
Ford estimates that approximately 10% of the 850,318 vehicles being recalled in the U.S. are affected by this fuel pump risk. Transport Canada has confirmed that 107,534 vehicles in Canada are included in this recall.
