Ford is making the largest investment in its 118-year history

Ford Motor Co. and Korean energy company SK Innovations are investing $ 11.4 billion in two huge electric vehicle production campuses that will create more than 10,000 new jobs. This is Ford’s largest investment in the 118-year history of the manufacturer, writes CNN.

Ford will invest $ 7 billion in production facilities. The investment is part of the planned $ 30 billion by 2025 for the transition to electric mobility. The company expects that by the middle of the decade, 40 percent of its sales will be generated by electric cars, and by the end of 2030, all of them will have batteries.

Both campuses will be in the United States, one in Kentucky and the other in Tennessee. In total, three plants for batteries and one for electric pickups will be built. They will employ between 10,000 and 11,000 people.

The production facilities in Tennessee will be named “City of the Blue Oval” – a reference to the company’s logo. They will cover almost 15 square kilometers, or three times the size of the company’s complex in Michigan. It will employ 5,800 people who will be employed in the production of batteries and electric pickups of the F-series. The complex there may be further expanded in the future, said Chief Operating Officer Lisa Drake.

In Kentucky, the facilities will be called BlueOvalSK Battery Park and batteries will be produced there in two identical plants located next to each other.

The plants are expected to start operating in 2025.
