For the third day in a row, the highest number of Covid-19 patients was registered in Riga

Last day, the spread of Covid-19 continued in Riga and 32 of the new infections were registered in the capital, reaching a total of 446 Riga residents, according to data compiled by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).

Infections also continued in Jēkabpils, where seven new infections were registered during the past day, reaching a total of 22 inhabitants. 20 of them have been discovered in the last week.

During the past week, four new infected people were also registered in Daugavpils and Kuldīga region, where there are the most infected people after Riga. Consequently, the number of patients with Covid-19 in Daugavpils has increased to 224, but in Kuldīga region – to 107 inhabitants.

Newly infected persons were also registered in Jelgava, Liepāja, Ventspils, Aizpute, Krāslava, Salaspils, Talsi, Ķekava, Sigulda, Mārupe, Babīte, Stopiņi, Riebiņi and Tukums counties during the past day.

New patients have also been registered in Pārgauja and Salas counties, where all patients had previously recovered.

Of the new infections, 15 are between 20 and 29 years old, 12 are between 50 and 59 years old, and 11 are between ten and 19 years old. Other age groups have fewer cases.

It has already been reported that 74 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in Latvia last day, while the largest number of new Covid-19 cases registered in one day was 137–9. in October, when it exceeded one hundred cases for the second day in a row.

Last day, 3345 Covid-19 tests were performed, but the proportion of positive tests has reached 2.2%. So far, a total of 361 843 Covid-19 examinations have been performed in Latvia, 2670 persons have become ill, but 1322 have recovered.

It has also been reported that, according to data compiled by the National Health Service, 61 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in hospitals, the highest number of hospital admissions to date. Nine more patients with Covid-19 were hospitalized last day.

Of all those hospitalized, 56 have a moderate course of the disease and five have a severe course of the disease. To date, 247 patients have been discharged from the hospital, including both recovered and dead.

The previous record was reached yesterday, when a total of 52 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized.
