Dr. John Jabbour, the representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt, revealed the scenes of the discovery of the first positive case of the emerging coronavirus in Egypt on February 14th.
Jabbour said in a press conference held by the Information Agency today, Monday, that the first case in Egypt was a Chinese person, adding: “I have personally followed up with the Minister of Health Hala Zayed since 8.40 pm the details of the case, and we discussed the measures taken to confirm it in the laboratory, and by the time 12 After midnight our experts were in contact with the central laboratories of the Ministry of Health to confirm the laboratory procedures, and we confirmed the correctness of the test procedure at 1.20 minutes after the text of the night. “
He added: “The next day we confirmed the laboratory process of the case, as our reference laboratory was linked to Hong Kong with the central laboratories to make sure through laboratory tests that they are 100% correct, and our reference laboratory was in contact with us .. We do not work with one level, but through several procedures.” .
The representative of the World Health Organization continued: “There is no special time in the presence of an epidemic. We, as an Egyptian organization and government, are keen on making sure that the approved methodology is scientifically correct.”
Jabour said: “This is the first time to mention the details of the measures that have been taken with the Chinese person; to confirm that there is no action taken except within the guidelines of the World Health Organization, where we developed the technical guidelines in full with the Egyptian government.”
On February 14th, the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population and the World Health Organization announced the discovery of the first positive case of emerging coronavirus inside the country.
At that time, Dr. Khaled Mujahid, Advisor to the Minister of Health and Population for Media Affairs, said that all preventive measures and measures of the case were taken in cooperation with the World Health Organization, where the case was transferred to a self-sterilized ambulance to the hospital for isolation, follow-up, and reassurance, and did not show any symptoms. His condition is stable.
The Ministry also took preventive measures against those in contact with the case through conducting the necessary analyzes that were negative for the virus, and they were self-isolated in their places of residence as a precautionary measure for a period of 14 days “incubation period”, pointing to their follow-up periodically every 8 hours and giving them health instructions to follow. The building in which the case was located and contacts with it were sterilized.
The Chinese boy recovered on Thursday, February 27, and left the hospital designated for isolation, after confirming his negative laboratory results.
