For possible case of coronavirus, Uber cancels user accounts in CDMX

Uber Mexico temporarily suspended 240 accounts, as well as two driving partners from Mexico City, after the Capital Ministry of Health notified it that a user could be a possible coronavirus carrier.

The company reported that on January 31, the Capital Ministry of Health made a request for information related to a user suspected of being a carrier of the new coronavirus originating in Wuhan, China.

“This request was answered on January 31 with contact information of two driving partners that possibly made trips with the user of the profile located,” Uber said.

As part of the company’s protocols, the company notified both drivers and 240 users about the temporary deactivation of their accounts.

Uber asked users whose accounts have been temporarily deactivated to contact the Epidemiological and Health Intelligence Unit (UIES) in case of symptoms.

Uber said that all its users will be kept aware of the response and instructions from the capital authorities and about any update in their accounts.

Twitter user Norma Sánchez explained that Uber dropped her account on the grounds that a user who used the same unit as her has a possible coronavirus infection.

When questioning the company through social networks, Uber responded to Norma explaining the notification given by the Ministry of Health and the protocol they implemented.
