For Martullo-Blocher, there are too many foreign bosses

As the campaign for the “limitation” initiative is in full swing, Magdalena Martullo-Blocher pleads for strengthening national preference. Many companies are run by foreigners who do not understand the Swiss system, she laments.

These business leaders often come from the European Union and do not vote in popular votes, notes the national councilor (UDC / GR) in an interview published on Saturday in the German-speaking newspapers of Tamedia. Many of these bosses are on the EU side, not least because they hope to secure government contracts from the EU, she said.

“Some of them do not have the same interests for Switzerland as we, the Swiss business leaders,” adds the head of Ems-Chemie. And to continue: “the SVP is not fundamentally against the arrival of foreigners in Switzerland. But the problem is that 80% immigrate without accepting a job for which we have not found anyone in Switzerland ”.

They are therefore taking the place of the Swiss. And the situation is deteriorating even more because of the coronavirus pandemic, notes Magdalena Martullo-Blocher. Young people and older workers are particularly affected because they now have difficulty finding a job, she explains.

Separate authorization system

Switzerland does not practice national preference although it is written into the constitution after the people accepted the initiative against mass immigration, deplores the national adviser.

Asked if the UDC wanted to reintroduce the seasonal status, Magdalena Martullo-Blocher indicated that it was not such a status, but a separate authorization system, as the EU also knows. Under this system, people can only immigrate to fill positions that could not be filled with indigenous workers, she says.

The Swiss will vote on September 27 on the SVP’s initiative “for moderate immigration”, known as “limitation”. The text calls for Switzerland to be able to regulate its immigration autonomously. Free movement with the EU and EFTA should be negotiated again. If the Federal Council fails to do so within a year, it would have to withdraw from the agreement.
