“For Khadija”: A Documentary on the Life and Rise of Moroccan Rapper French Montana

“For Khadija”, a documentary film chronicling the life and journey of Moroccan rapper French Montana, will premiere on June 17 in New York as part of the Tribeca Film Festival.

Bearing the name of his mother, the documentary, directed by Mandon Lovett, will be presented to the public by the American actor Robert de Niro, announced the rapper on his Instagram account.

“From a small village in Africa, to Morocco, to Robert de Niro presenting the story of my life at the Tribeca Film Festival”, writes the artist of the film which shines the spotlight on milestones in his life and his meteoric rise in the world of rap and hip-hop.

In this documentary produced by Puff Daddy and Drake, French Montana, whose real name is Karim Kharbouch, pays tribute to his mother and sheds light on whole sections of his life from the city of Casablanca where he grew up to the famous new district. Yorkers from the Bronx, the cradle of rap and hip-hop music in the United States.

“It’s just a real immigrant story. I’ve never really seen anyone make a movie like that,” he said of his movie in a recent interview with CBS News.

Born in Rabat, French Montana, spent a large part of his childhood in Casablanca, before settling, at the age of 13, in New York. Nicknamed the “king of featurings”, he has collaborated with several famous rappers and singers, such as Drake, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.

His first single, Pop That, released in 2012, was certified platinum within weeks, before his album Excuse My French, distributed the following year, propelled him to the forefront of the scene across the Atlantic.

His hit “Famous”, which reveals the beauties of Morocco and Chefchaouen, but also his hit Unforgettable, both taken from his latest album Jungle Rules, represent milestones in his artistic career.

After the screening of his documentary, the Moroccan-American rapper will entertain the public with a colorful concert as announced on Extra TV by American producer Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival alongside Robert de Niro.
