For politician Milada Horáková, who fell victim to judicial murder 70 years ago, truth, honesty and justice were more valuable than her life. This was stated by Senate President Miloš Vystrčil (ODS) at Saturday’s act of reverence to honor the memory of the victims of communism in Újezd, Prague. According to House Speaker Petr Fiala (ODS), communism is a criminal regime all over the world.
Both politicians recalled that the Communist Party supports the current government.
The act of reverence was accompanied by an audio recording of statements from the trial with Milada Horáková and other defendants. For example, the speech of the then prosecutor Josef Urválek and the words of the judge when he passed the death sentence were heard.
“She actually sacrificed her life for truth, honesty and justice,” Vystrčil told reporters in memory of Milady Horáková. “We remember the monstrosity of the communist regime as a whole and there were almost 250 executed,” he said. He also said that the current KSČM did not distance itself sufficiently from what happened in the 1950s. “Even sadder is that this communist party supports the current government today,” he added.
“It is important to remember the victims of communism also so that totalitarianism will not be repeated,” said the chairman of the ODS and the deputy chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Fiala. “The communist regime is a criminal regime all over the world and we need to remember that,” he told reporters. He also pointed out that the current government relies on the support of the current KSČM.
According to the President of the Senate, the legacy of the executed prisoners of the communist regime and all those who suffered as a result of this regime is threefold. “Firstly, it reminds us of the monstrosity of the communist regime. Secondly, it tells us that values like truth, justice, democracy and honesty are more valuable than life, this is the case of Milady Horáková. The third report tells us that if we want to avoid repeated mistakes, or repeated succumbing to some promises and totalitarian regimes, we must know history well so that it does not happen again, “said Vystrčil.
Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) described Horáková as a brave woman on social networks. “Everyone must admire her incredible courage and strength. And everyone must condemn this total atrocity of the regime. The murder of an innocent woman. Admirable women,” he wrote.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček (ČSSD) stated that he had a black flag hoisted to the seat of the ministry in the Černín Palace in Prague in memory of Milady Horáková. “Let us never be afraid to tell the truth and let us stop fighting as evil as Milada Horáková. Honor the memory of this brave woman,” he wrote on his twitter account.
Milada Horáková. Brave woman. Everyone must admire her incredible courage and strength. And everyone must condemn this total atrocity of the regime. The murder of an innocent woman. Admirable women. It happened 70 years ago and I believe we will all remember it today.

A projection of Horáková’s portrait on the building of the headquarters of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia in the center of Prague reminded the politician executed by the communist regime today. It took place from midnight to 05:35, at a time when Horáková was preparing for death decades ago and wrote the last letter to her loved ones.
According to the Memory of the Nation during the communist regime from 1948 to 1989, 248 judicial murders were committed. Another 282 people died trying to cross the border and at least 7,000 in prisons.
