The world association FIFA will choose the world footballer of the year on January 17, 2022 in a virtual TV show at the Zurich headquarters. According to a FIFA announcement on Tuesday, awards will be presented in a total of eleven categories during the ceremony. The best players, coaches and goalkeepers of the 2020/21 season will be chosen. The Fair Play and Fan Award as well as the Puskas Award for Goal of the Year are also given.
Because of the corona pandemic, the event has to take place as a virtual show. According to FIFA, the period for voting is from November 22nd to December 10th. The national team coaches and their captains, journalists and fans vote on the best players and coaches in a combined vote.
