football, green energy and decarbonised economy

Against all odds, since they weren’t one of the favourites, Morocco will face Portugal this Saturday, December 10, in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, Qatar 2022.

A 0-0 draw with Croatia, 2-0 against Belgium (number two in the FIFA world ranking), 2-1 against Canada and on penalties, 3-0 against Spain (7th ranked in the world by FIFA).

If they beat Portugal (9th in the FIFA rankings), they will face France (holders and 4th in the FIFA rankings) or England (5th in the world according to FIFA) in the semi-finals, before progressing to the final, where they would face Brazil (1 in the world by FIFA) or Argentina (3 in the world).

Morocco has already made history, because being number 22 in the FIFA ranking, for which they seemed to have no chance, they have already beaten two of the best 10 on the planet. But, Inshallah, if “God wills” anything is possible.

Another great achievement of Morocco is what His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God help him, just announced on Saturday 3 December at the Royal Palace in Rabat, on the occasion of the presentation ceremony of the new green investment program of the OCP Group (l chérifien des phosphates, which is today the world’s leading exporter of raw phosphates and phosphate fertilizers), for the period 2023-2027. His Majesty the King announces that his country is committed to the transition to green energy and a decarbonised economy.

The goal is for this decarbonised energy to feed new seawater desalination, renewable energy-green hydrogen-green ammonia capacities, which will allow it to enter the market for green fertilizers and fertilization solutions adapted to the specific needs of different land and crops.

This interest of Morocco, but with global repercussions, announced by His Majesty the King, will be supported by programs to support industrial SMEs, as well as those in the energy and agricultural sectors, favoring the birth of an innovative national ecosystem and the creation of new job opportunities and professional integration for young people.

To this end, His Majesty the King presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on this investment program between the Government and the OCP Group.

In the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Energy and Mines and its Minister Antonio Almonte; Industry Commerce and Mipymes, its minister Ito Bisonó; Environment and Natural Resources, its minister Miguel Ceara Hatton was able to observe this example of Morocco and see how to adapt, which could be channeled through his ambassador to the country, His Excellency Hichame Dahane.

Come on Morocco, good luck with your next World Cup matches and with your proposal for the world of green fertilizers and decarbonised economy.
