Freiburg (dpa) – Third division football team FC Erzgebirge Aue started the new season with a 1-1 (1-0) win at SC Freiburg II. Marvin Stefaniak gave the guests the lead after just three minutes on Sunday in front of 2,400 spectators with a directly converted free kick. This was preceded by an emergency brake from Kimberly Ezekwem to Tim Danhof, which led to the red card for the Freiburg player after just 33 seconds. It was the fastest dismissal in third division history. After 51 minutes, Alexander Sorge scored an own goal for the Breisgau team in an unsuccessful attempt to clear the ball.

Aue started the game with nine newcomers and a few surprises because Martin Männel, Dimitrij Nazarov, Antonio Jonjic and Tom Baumgart did not travel to Freiburg due to illness. After the tailor-made start, the guests had more of the game, but some inaccuracies in the game structure prevented a greater threat. Despite being outnumbered, the hosts didn’t hide and always came up with good scenes. FCE goalkeeper Philipp Klewin had to save against Nishan Burkart with a strong save after 37 minutes.

After the change, the equalizer fell out of nowhere. Unglückrave Sorge almost hit the opposing goal afterwards. But Niklas Sauter (62nd) in the Freiburg goal clarified in dire need. In the 87th minute, he prevented Jann-Christopher George’s possible Auer winning goal with a foot reflex.
