Football: Fifa is considering third transfer window because of corona virus – football

Fifa has announced further flexibility for the transfer market due to the effects of the corona pandemic. The idea: an additional transfer period.

So far, two change windows are known: one after the season for a maximum of twelve weeks and one in the middle of the season in winter, which must not last longer than four weeks. “What we could see now in the crisis would be that associations open an additional, third transfer window,” said James Kitching, FIFA Director Football Regulatory, in the ARD “sports show”.

German football has so far been looking at the period between July 1 and August 31, and the four weeks between January 2 and February 1, 2021 – the so-called registration periods for transfers.

If the corona crisis pushed the end of the season further back, the transfer periods could also be adjusted. “We would handle this flexibly if the total time of 16 weeks was not exceeded,” said Kitching.

The international association also advocated adapting expiring professional contracts to the actual processes in the leagues. Means: The contracts should be extended until the season is over – whenever that may be. Planned summer transfers should also only take place after that.

However, this is not a clear requirement for FIFA. “We have to recognize that national labor law and the autonomy of clubs and players always have priority,” said Kitching.
