Footage from the independent Chinese mythological event Black Myth: Wu Kong will amaze you

THE Black Myth: Wu Kong you probably haven’t heard yet. It is an action adventure developed by the independent Chinese studio Game Science, and according to the first published footage from the game, it should definitely be a title that we should pay attention to in the West as well. Just because graphically it looks better than 95% of local AAA production.

The studio was founded in 2014 by several former Tencent employees, currently numbering around 40 people. So far, Game Science has won three titles, which were published only in China and aimed at mobile and PC players. The studio is developing a newly announced action adventure in Unreal Engine 4, the gameplay was inspired by the West God of Warbut also in the latest Monster Hunterovi chi u Approximately.

In the thirteen-minute video, you can notice, for example, a combat system not unlike the soulslike genre, but spiced with portions of special abilities, including the ability to freeze enemies in the middle of movement, bounce arrows and perform various long-distance and close-ups. According to an industry analyst Daniela Ahmada the total number of capabilities should even be 72. A strangely specific number per project in the pre-production phase, but why not.

Black Myth: Wu Kong draws inspiration from Chinese mythology and literature, specifically from one of the four 16th-century classic novels Journey to the West. It deals with the pilgrimage of a Buddhist monk to India and Central Asia. In the popular version of the story, this monk is actually a monkey, which is also the case with the protagonist Black Myth.

However, it can also take on the forms of other animals, which is a relatively practical game mechanics demonstrated on the example of a cicada, in the rafters of which the protagonist can avoid the eyes and weapons of the enemy.

Game Science plan Black Myth to be released on a PC and on the next generation of consoles, but has not yet set a release date. It’s not even nearing completion, as developers are just being hired for some key positions. Even so, it is a title that we will keep in the future.
