Foggy start, sunny end – today the warming trend begins

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) — Dense fog with visibility below 1/4 mile this morning in south-central Kansas, combined with temperatures in the 20’s and 20’s, is bringing freezing fog and trees to the area.

Heavy fog warning until 10am and fog expected to clear/dissipate by mid morning. Temperatures are cold this morning and will struggle as long as fog and clouds persist, but towards midday the clouds will clear and temperatures will begin to warm. Highs will hit the 40s and 50s in most of Kansas except for the eastern third of the state. The warming trend will continue for MLK day and Tuesday with highs in the 50’s and lows in the 60’s.

All good things (warm weather) come to an end in January, and so will Tuesday night when a strong Canadian cold front sweeps through the state. While this weather system is expected to endure dry weather, temperatures behind the front lines will drop. Temperatures will range between 20 and 30 degrees across Kansas on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Colder than normal temperatures will continue through Friday with some moderation into next weekend when highs return to 40 degrees.
