FNV wants short-term unemployment benefits to be extended until October 1 | NOW

The FNV union wants the short-term unemployment benefits to be extended until 1 October. This would equate the support period for flex workers, among others, with that for companies.

FNV thus stands up for flex workers, for example, who often have few or no unemployment benefits.

Many flex workers have built up a short-term unemployment benefit, which they have been using since the outbreak of the corona crisis. This benefit lasts three months and will come to an end for many in the coming period.

The largest union in the Netherlands notes that many unemployed people have to go to the municipality for social assistance benefits after the unemployment benefit has ended. However, many flex workers are not eligible for assistance, according to FNV.

To prevent “American conditions”, FNV argues for an extension of the short-term unemployment benefit for flex workers, among others.

A large proportion of recent social assistance entrants are younger than 35, as figures from Divosa Benchmark Work and Income showed on Thursday.
