Florida reports 7,121 new cases of coronavirus and another 62 deaths – Telemundo Miami (51)

Coronavirus cases in Florida reached 2,118,713 on Friday after 6,906 new positives and 46 additional deaths of residents in the state, reported the Department of Health.

The positivity rate is reported at 6.94 percent, remaining above the 6% that has been verified during the last two weeks.

In the last week, 41,677 new cases have been reported: 6,906 on Saturday, 7,121 on Friday, 7,939 on Thursday, 5,885 on Wednesday, 5,556 on Tuesday, 3,480 on Monday, and 4,790 on Sunday. The average number of positives to COVID-19 in the last week is 5,953 per day.

We spoke with Dr. Miguel Venereo, Medical Director of Community Care Plan, about the effectiveness of the coronavirus vaccine, the benefits, as well as the possible side effects.

Miami-Dade accumulates 459,493 cases of coronavirus and Broward 222,445. The two counties have the highest number of infected people in the state, where 34,014 residents have already died from COVID-19. Another 662 non-state residents have died in Florida, for a grand total of 34,676.

In Miami-Dade, 5,969 people have died from COVID-19, in Broward 2,721, in Palm Beach 2,692 and in Monroe 50.

In addition, Palm Beach County has had 135,758 positive cases, while Monroe accumulates 6,630. In the state, a total of 86,894 people have been hospitalized since the start of the pandemic.

A total of 7,103,884 people have been vaccinated in Florida, of which 4,320,977 have already received the full dose. In Miami-Dade, 923,181 vaccines have been administered, while in Broward 637,7245 vaccines have been given, in Monroe 27,805 and in Palm Beach about 516,699, according to figures published by the state.

The latest CDC figures show 3,494 cases of the UK strain (B.1.1.7) present in Florida, at least 87 cases of the Brazilian variant (P.1), and about 25 cases of the South African strain (B. 1,351). The state of Florida is the most committed in the entire nation with the majority of verified cases of new variants of COVID-19.
