Florida Pastor Arrested for Involuntary Homicide of Baby Left in Hot Car for 3 Hours During Church Service

His mother, a pastor, was late for the service of an evangelical church in Florida. She was arrested and charged with “involuntary homicide of a minor”.

A baby aged just eleven months has died after being left alone for three hours in a car in direct sunlight. The incident happened on May 28 in Palm Bay, a small town in Florida, in the southern United States, reports ABC News.

The girl’s mother, a pastor, was to provide the office of an evangelical church in the city. Arrived late, she would have left her little girl in her vehicle, thinking that one of the faithful of the church would take care of recovering her.

At the end of the church service, “the mother noticed that her child was not inside, nor with a member of the church. She then rushed to her car where he was found, in his car seat and unresponsive,” police said.

The eleven-month-old baby was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The police also explained that they had not yet received the medical examiner’s report on the official cause of death.

Up to 46 degrees inside the vehicle

The baby’s mother has been arrested and charged with “minor manslaughter”. According to Florida Todayshe faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

The temperature in Palm Bay on Sunday May 28 was around 21 degrees. But according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the American federal agency in charge of road safety, the temperature inside a car can go up to 46 degrees with such an outside temperature.

Also according to the NHTSA, in 2022, 33 children died in the same circumstances in the United States.
