Florida: More than 600,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus | U.S

TALLAHASSEE, Florida, U.S. (AP) – Florida surpassed the 600,000 confirmed coronavirus case mark Sunday, though it also had one of its lowest daily totals in two months, continuing a downward trend that began five weeks ago. .

The state reported 2,974 new cases on Sunday, the second time since June 22 that it has accounted for fewer than 3,000 new cases in one day. The other time was on Monday, when 2,678 cases were reported. Sundays and Mondays often have low reporting numbers, as not all hospitals report on weekends.

The daily total peaked on July 15 when more than 15,000 cases were reported, but has since declined.

COVID-19 hospitalizations have also been declining. As of late Sunday morning, 4,578 patients were being treated for the disease in Florida hospitals compared to 4,773 on Saturday and nearly 800 fewer since Thursday. Hospitalizations peaked at 9,500 on July 23.

Overall, the state has reported 600,571 confirmed cases.
