Floods up to 150 cm, 300 houses in Ciganjur South Jakarta are submerged

Jakarta

As many as 300 houses of residents on Jalan Damai RT 04 / RW 02, Ciganjur Village, South Jakarta, were inundated flood. The water level is from 70 cm to 150 cm.

The Head of Jagakarsa Sub-district, Alamsyah, said that the flood originated from the overflow of Setu River’s children due to heavy rainfall. In addition, there are water shipments from the Depok area.

“The rain is quite heavy, besides that it rains in Depok, Kali Baru flows in Depok,” said Alamsyah, as reported by Antara, Saturday (10/10/2020).

He said the overflow of Kali Baru children was because the river dividing wall in the Melati Resident area was broken. The breakdown of the barrier caused water to overflow into residential areas at RT 04 / RW 02.

A number of residents’ houses on the edge of the river were also damaged. One resident died and two other people were injured as a result of the incident.

“Two of them have been evacuated at Sibron Hospital, the other one has the information that he died at the Marine Hospital,” said Alamsyah.

According to Alamsyah, the victim died as a result of the fall of his house which was damaged by the overflow of Kali Setu’s children. Until now, water is still high enough to inundate residential areas on Jalan Damai.

Alamsyah said that his party has prepared three holding locations for residents who have fled. However, most residents chose to stay on the second floor of their house.

“The Jakarta Social Service has set up tents at the site for residents to evacuate, we need food assistance,” said Alamsyah.
