Extreme operation in Russia. A team of doctors saved the life of a patient with heart disease, while the hospital building was engulfed in fire, informs Bulgaria On Air.
At the time of the fire in the hospital in the city of Blagoveshchensk, a heart operation of a patient had already started in the cardiology department. The intervention is vital and its interruption can be fatal.
Because of this, at the risk of his life, the 8-member medical team unanimously decided not to leave the burning building until the operation was over.
“While the upper floors were burning, a major cardiac operation was performed on the first floor. At their own risk, the doctors continued to perform their duty. The heroic act was admirable, but for the doctors it was the most sensible solution in the critical situation,” said anesthesiologist Antonina Smolina.
“There was nothing to do, we had to continue working,” said Dr. Valentin Filatov, head of the surgical department.
The patient’s condition is stable and he has been transferred to the intensive care unit of another hospital. And no one was injured in the fire. All 67 patients were evacuated in time by hospital staff and firefighters.
