An adult was also seriously injured in the accident, a police spokesman said. It is unknown if anyone is in mortal danger. Two other passengers suffered minor injuries.
According to Mayor Richard Korteland of Meppel, it seems that all victims come from the neighboring municipality of De Wolden. The municipality was not immediately available for comment on the situation.
The accident happened around 5:20 p.m. According to the police, two air ambulances and about seven ambulances were at the scene. The victims have been taken to hospital. Police are investigating how the accident could have happened. Those involved are offered victim assistance.
