CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The FIU WomenS Golf team concluded its fall schedule Sunday at the UNC-hosted Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational, finishing in a tie for 13th place among 15 teams. The tournament marked the final competitive event for the Panthers before their spring season.
FIU posted rounds of 389, 379, and 382, totaling a 62-over par performance on the 70-par course. While the team result placed them in the lower half of the field,the invitational provided a strong showing for freshman Romane Poissonnier,who led the Panthers and secured a top-10 finish.This tournament serves as a crucial stepping stone for the program as it prepares for a February return to competition and the challenges of the spring season.
Poissonnier, a freshman from France, delivered her best collegiate performance to date, tying for eighth place in the 81-golfer competition.She carded rounds of 75, 69, and 69 for a 3-over par total.
Behind Poissonnier, freshman Elva Holmgren finished second for FIU with a score of +20. Sophomore Catalina Harvey followed closely in third at +22,while junior Gabriella Gomez placed fourth at +25.Rounding out the Panther lineup was freshman Emma jaczkovic, who finished fifth with a score of +30.
The FIU Women’s Golf team will resume play on February 2nd at the Paradise Invitational, hosted by Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
