FITUR 2020: Andy Warhol and Lego, next star exhibitions at the Lonja de Alicante

The Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, the Deputy Mayor Mari Carmen Sánchez and the Councilor for Culture, Antonio Manresa, presented yesterday at Fitur the most important cultural spaces in the city and the “star” exhibitions for the Alicante Fish Market in 2020, which will have in the Lego pieces and in Andy Warhol its main exponents.

Jesús Rodríguez, director of Arthemisia Spain, who was responsible for setting up both exhibitions in the municipal hall, accompanied them at the event. To access both exhibitions will have to pay entry, still to be determined by the company. The first to arrive will be that of Lego, which will be installed from May 21 to September 6, and that of Warhol will occupy the entire surface in December, according to a statement from the City Council.

“The Lonja exhibition hall, after the success of the Van Gogh and Titanic exhibitions, returns in 2020 to bet on large exhibitions, which we are convinced will once again attract the general public to one of our most important halls”, Barcala stressed yesterday, after adding that “culture is a fundamental axis, it is what allows you to make the leap in quality.”

Sánchez stressed that Alicante also has “a jewel of contemporary art” such as the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante (MACA), “cultural benchmark” that this year has broken record visitors. “The excellent quality of its permanent collections, its temporary exhibitions, as well as its activities for all audiences are fundamental pillars for culture and benchmarks for tourism,” Sánchez said, while Manresa added that “Alicante has spaces and cultural programming. Very complete”.

New productions

The exhibition producer Arthemisia is an Italian firm, specialized in organizing temporary exhibitions with 20 years of experience. It has held more than 700 exhibitions, with 52,000 works and more than 60 million visitors. He arrived in Spain in 2015 with a Kandinsky retrospective and those dedicated to Hopper, Escher, Rothko or Klimt are some of the most significant.

The Market will host in December 2020 the exhibition of Andy Warhol and other representatives of Pop-Art, such as Roy Lichtenstein or Rauscheberg. This sample will be the first time that it is exhibited in Spain since Arthemisia is going to produce it specifically for Alicante, indicates the City Council, which does not give more detail of its content.

Before, in May, it will arrive I love Lego, which has already passed through Madrid, Gijón and Barcelona and is made up of eight miniature worlds created with more than a million pieces. The detailed assembly is carried out by RomaBrick, one of the first LUGs (Lego User Group) in the world. This company makes Lego dioramas internationally and the private collections of each member come together in a great unique collection. In each installation, engineers and architects work with digital tools until the final assembly, with scenarios such as World War II, a castle inspired by Game of Thrones or a big city with skyscrapers.
