First Women’s Coal-Producing Factory in Saudi Arabia: Converting Palm Waste into Environmentally Friendly Charcoal

Al-Marsad Newspaper: A report by Al-Arabiya channel showed that a group of women established the first women’s coal-producing factory in Saudi Arabia by converting palm waste in Al-Qassim farms into environmentally friendly charcoal.

The director of the factory, Sahar Al-Salloum, said in the report: The idea of establishing the factory started from Professor Fatima Al-Turki, may God have mercy on her, who donated part of her house to establish the factory in 2011 to support widows and divorced women, and it is considered the first women’s factory in the Kingdom.

She added: The idea arose from the abundance of palm waste in the region, converting it and recycling it into natural, environmentally friendly charcoal free of lead and achieving self-sufficiency.

And she continued: The beginning was on simple equipment, after which the project developed and moved to the industrial city in Qassim, after which machines were imported at a better level and the men were employed alongside the women, and the annual production reached about 100,000 kilos.
