While making the necessary adaptations to the GM plant in São Caetano do Sul, Brazil, for its production, the automaker announced the soon release of the Chevrolet Montana. It will be your new subcompact truck for the region.
One of the phenomena that the Internet has brought is that the development of new vehicles, by brands, is no longer a secret. This is how GM South America has understood it when providing information related to your next regional release, the subcompact pick-up that will compete with Renault Oroch Y Fiat Toro/RAM 1000 and whose name has already been confirmed: Chevrolet Montana.
Currently, the company is carrying out the work related to its design, set-up and adaptation of production lines. It will be manufactured at the facilities of Sao Caetano do Sul, Sao Paulo state in Brazil, which in full unemployment due to a shortage of semiconductors, go through an intense transformation process for that purpose.
Returning to the vehicle, the name Montana not unknown in Mercosur. A couple of decades ago, there was presented a small pick-up with that name, derived from the Corsa. But that model, which was produced until a couple of months ago, was closest to a VW Saveiro than a real truck. Now, it will be different.
Agárrate Oroch
The new Chevrolet Montana that is now in process will be bigger, more refined and will substantially increase your capabilities as it will seek to compete head-on with the aforementioned Renault and Fiat models. In practice, that means it will be well above the Saveiro and Fiat Strada / RAM 700, but without reaching the level of a S10 / Colorado.
This pick-up will be the largest model supported by the GEM platform (Global Emerging Markets), which also supports Onix and Tracker. This guarantees the presence of latest generation engines and technologies, as well as optimal comfort on board, although to that it should add a good utilitarian capacity still with a monocoque structure.
It is speculated with the presence of the engine Hurricane of 1.2 liters, 130 hp / 190 Nm that we already know in Tracker. Among the equipment details should be the LED daytime running lights, main lights on two levels, character lines on the side panels and a front grille with chrome decoration. Brazilian illustrator Renato Aspromonte imagined the truck as seen in the projections posted above.
The official voice
According to the brand, Chevrolet Montana will bring “An unprecedented truck concept” with an important evolution at the level of architecture, dynamics, efficiency and equipment. Along with that statement, GM presented the first shaded image of its silhouette as an official preview.
In the words of Carlos Zarlenga, president of GM South America, “this new product is very important to us. I think the new Chevrolet Montana will make a big difference in our portfolio“. Its official presentation is scheduled for first months of 2022.
