First Lady alerts about early detection of breast cancer

Early detection of breast cancer may be the key to escaping from the clutches of this terrible disease and the first lady of the Republic, Raquel Arbaje de Abinader, is “attentive” to the situation. Proof of this is that he leads the Program for the Timely Detection of Cancer, under the slogan Check yourself out!

In an interview with the newspaper HOY, the first lady, who prefers to be considered a public servant (honorary), explained that in addition to free medical care for the detection of breast cancer, the project includes, for the first time, a prostate examination for men and cervical for women.

According to what has been explained, the program includes laboratory tests, imaging studies, hospitalization when required, medical procedures, gynecological and oncology consultations, as well as treatment according to the finding.

The initiative, which is now five months old, is developed in coordination with the National Health Service (SNS) and the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa), led by Mario Lama and Santiago Hazim, respectively, within the framework of the Uniendo Voluntades initiative. .

“It is not true that cancer is a death sentence against which nothing can be done. Check yourself, don’t leave it for later ”, proclaimed the first lady with her singular charisma.

The hospitals prioritized for the execution of the program are the Maternal Reynaldo Almánzar, Maternal Infant Santo Socorro, the Dominican Woman, Maternity Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia and the National Cancer Institute (INCART), in Santo Domingo. In addition, Jaime Mota, from Barahona; General and Specialties Our Lady of Altagracia (HGENSA), in Higüey; Doctor Luis Morillo King, in La Vega, and President Estrella Ureña, in Santiago.

In the interview, Arbaje de Abinader was accompanied by Lama and Hazim, who explained that during this month of October, the program will hold national days for the prevention of breast cancer in three mobile units with mammographers, sonographers and a medical team made up of radiological technicians. , nurses, general practitioners and medical auditors, to ensure health care for the most vulnerable population in the country.

The operation will take place every weekend. On the 9th and 10th in Pedernales, Independencia and Bahoruco; 16 and 17 in Montecristi, Dajabón and Santiago Rodríguez; 25 and 26 in Higüey, El Seibo and Hato Mayor and 30 and 31 in Samaná, Nagua and Moca.

For his part, Mario Lama explained that in five months into the beginning, the program for the Timely Detection of Cancer has screened 5,708 patients; 2,742 in the cervical area; 2,184 breast and 782 prostate.
According to what was reported by the health specialist, 69 patients had some type of finding.

He also explained that by offering the corresponding follow-up, three cases of breast cancer were detected; two prostate and one cervical. They were referred for treatment to the Rosa Emilia Sánchez Pérez de Tavares National Institute (Incart).

Likewise, all patients with any finding were registered in a program for annual follow-up.

On his side, Santiago Hazim said that through Senasa a coverage of up to one million pesos in chemotherapy is guaranteed and that they are trying to raise it to two million pesos. “The goal is for patients to have everything covered from studies to treatment. For the first time in history, we are tracking these types of diseases from A to Z, ”said Hazim.
