First infection with corona virus in Berlin – B.Z. Berlin

It was announced late on Sunday evening that the first case of coronavirus infection had been detected in the capital.

In Berlin, for the first time, a patient can be proven to have contracted the novel corona virus. This was announced by the Senate Department for Health, Nursing and Equal Opportunities late Sunday evening. The person was isolated and treated in hospital.

In the meantime, attempts have already been made to follow up the contact persons, the Senate Administration said. Health Senator Dilek Kalayci will announce further information on the first case of a coronavirus-infected patient in Berlin at a press conference on Monday at 12 noon.

To date, more than 130 infections with the Sars-CoV-2 virus are known in Germany, which can cause the lung disease Covid-19. With Berlin, there are now ten federal states from which infections have been reported.

Results from employees of the Brandenburg Tropical Tropical Water Park were expected for Monday. A man from North Rhine-Westphalia was visiting there, and the pathogen was later detected.

The virus spreads through droplet infection, such as when coughing and speaking. The origin of the new virus is in China. According to a recent analysis by China’s health authority, 2.3 percent of those infected with Sars-CoV-2 die there, among them so far mainly old people with previous illnesses.
