‘iMac with A14T chip will be released in 2021’

That claims The China Times. The Chinese publication believes it is aware of Apple’s computer plans for next year. According to The China Times, the Cupertino company is not only working on its own processor for the iMac, the A14T chip, but also a self-developed graphics processor.

Both parts are developed on the basis of a 5 nanometer structure, just like the iPhone 12 processor. Roughly speaking, the fewer nanometers, the faster the chip is ultimately. The A13 Bionic, which is the iPhone 11 phones for example, uses a 7 nanometer structure and is therefore less powerful than the A14.

Speaking of which, the A14T processor is a modified variant of that chip, according to The China Times. The A14 processor is at the heart of the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max in iPhone 12 mini. The Chinese newspaper leaves in the middle where the T variant differs from the iPhone 12 chip.

The publication does report that Apple is also working on an A14X chip. This would in turn be intended for an as yet unannounced MacBook and iPad Pro. Finally, The China Times claims that Apple is currently working on the A15 chip, the logical successor to the A14 processor from the iPhone 12 series. The Chinese newspaper does not comment on substantive details.

First Silicon MacBook in November?

Little by little, we are learning more and more about the new MacBooks and iMacs. More and more sources, including the usually reliable Jon Prosser, for example, claim that the next Apple event will take place on November 17.

This digital meeting would be entirely devoted to the first MacBook Pro with ARM processor, which is made by Apple itself. This rumor does not come out of the blue, because earlier this year the company announced that it had severed ties with Intel. That is a considerable step for Apple, because they worked with the chip manufacturer for years.
