The municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia will host the country’s first hydrogen fueling station, in an investment of around 1.5 million euros, co-financed by the Environmental Fund, was revealed today.
The post will be installed in the Parque da Lavandeira, in the parish of Oliveira do Douro, and the proposal for the public tender was unanimously approved today in a council meeting.
The contribution of the Environmental Fund will be 750 thousand euros as a result of an application launched in September last year, when the Mayor of Gaia, Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues, announced, also in a council meeting, that the other half of the financing would be distributed by the municipality and application partners. Today, the mayor reiterated that with this bet he seeks to “take advantage of a financing opportunity and host the first post in the country”, an equipment fundamentally dedicated to heavy vehicles, with Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues expecting that this post will supply future vehicles for the Sociedade de Porto Collective Transport (STCP).
In January, without specifying locations, Galp said in a statement that it was preparing the launch of the first hydrogen filling station, pointing out that “it should open later this year to supply a fleet of buses”, read in the statement the gas station.

This afternoon’s Vila Nova de Gaia meeting was also marked by the unanimous approval of the sports development program contract between the city council and Futebol Clube de Crestuma, in a financial support of 780 thousand euros for the construction of a new stadium.
The rehabilitation of the PSP division in Gaia will cost 380 thousand euros, as it was approved today.
