Fireworks Create Panic in Washington Square Park After Mistaking Them for Gunshots – NBC New York

Authorities said no shots were fired at Manhattan’s notorious Washington Square Park after people ran out thinking they were shooting Sunday afternoon.

The New York City Police said that after an investigation they determined that “NOT” were shots but fireworks at the scene.

The scare occurs during the day that the Pride March is celebrated in New York City that attracts thousands of people and that takes place mostly in this part of the Big Apple.

The police officer did not release further details.
