Fires – Möllenhagen – Deadly house fire in Möllenhagen: Cause still unclear – Panorama

Möllenhagen (dpa / mv) – The cause of the fire in a residential building in Möllenhagen (Mecklenburg Lake District), in which one person was killed on Monday, is still unclear. As a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday, investigators and an expert are still trying to clarify the circumstances of the fire on Monday night. The couple who own the house, both 58 years old, were able to save themselves. The dead person is said to be the 89-year-old roommate in the house, who has been missing ever since.

According to initial investigations, the fire is said to have broken out in a carport that was at the rear of the house. However, it remained unclear whether it was a technical defect or another cause of the fire. A neighbor noticed the fire at night and called the fire department. The charred corpse was also found in the ruins of the carport after the fire had been extinguished. Forensic pathologists should now clarify the exact identity.

The house was largely destroyed. Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings, such as an adjacent barn. The fire damage was estimated by the police at at least 250,000 euros. The couple who own the property initially found accommodation in the community.
