Firefighters on duty who refuse to get vaccinated accused of threatening a state legislator – Telemundo New York (47)

Six members of Ladder 113’s FDNY have been suspended after driving their truck to a state senator’s office in New York City and threatening his staff over the mandate of vaccinations for city workers.

On-duty firefighters drove an on-duty ladder truck to State Senator Zellnor Myrie’s office in Brooklyn and asked staff for his address, a department spokesman confirmed. The crew is accused of telling Myrie employees they would have “blood on their hands” due to the vaccination mandate, which suspends workers without pay.

The firefighters group also told staff that they would not respond if a fire was reported at Myrie’s home.

Commissioner Daniel Nigro condemned the crew’s actions and told News 4 that they had been relieved of duty and face disciplinary action.

“This is a very inappropriate act on the part of the service members of this Department who should only be concerned with responding to emergencies and helping New Yorkers and not harassing an elected official and their staff. The members in question have been immediately relieved of their duties and will face disciplinary measures, “he said.

Myrie expressed her annoyance at the half a dozen firefighters who bombed her office while on duty.

“I am outraged. Firstly because these duty officers were supposed to be focused on keeping us safe and responding to emergencies, but instead they tried to use their uniforms and their fire truck to intimidate my staff. And secondly Instead, it is disturbing that an elected state official is approached to make threats about a city mandate, threats to my own safety by asking about my address, “the state senator said.

Thousands of firefighters remain unvaccinated one day before the deadline. The FDNY is analyzing the possibility that 20% of firehouses will be closed and that there will be 20% fewer ambulances on the road by Monday.

More than 1,000 FDNY staff members have applied for religious exemptions and will be able to continue on the job with weekly COVID tests while their respective Equal Employment Opportunity offices review the claims.

Unvaccinated members have until 5 pm Friday to meet Mayor Bill de Blasio’s deadline. The city incentivized workers with bonuses of $ 500 to encourage them to get the vaccine.
