Fire letter about gay violence in asylum seekers’ centers: 60 reports in 3 months

There are extremely many, says the foundation, which today sends an urgent letter to State Secretary Ankie Broekers-Knol (Justice and Security).

Boiling water

Two people from Nigeria were recently arrested in an asylum seekers’ center in Gilze for the serious abuse of two women who are in a relationship. One of the women was poured over with boiling water.

According to LGBT Asylum, which works for LGBTI + asylum seekers, the reason was the sexuality of the couple. In asylum seekers’ centers also often react aggressively to the rainbow flag that people hang and gays and transgender people are regularly bullied.

The foundation has been advocating separate housing units for years, especially for transgender people. They feel safer together in a group, it would appear.
