Fire leaves at least 39 migrants dead

In northern Mexico, Ciudad Juárez, near the border with the United States, a fire broke out in a migrant detention center.

The fire occurred around 10 p.m. this Monday, in the accommodation area of ​​the Provisional Stay in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.

The accident has left at least 39 migrants dead and 29 in serious condition. The injured were transferred to the General Hospital of Zone Number 6 of Social Security, the Red Cross and the General Hospital, according to information provided by Civil Protection personnel.

The migrants who died in the fire are men and although their nationality is unknown, they have reported that the majority are Venezuelans, however, the National Institute of Migration said in its report They are working on identifying the bodies.

“It is specified that 68 men, of legal age, from Central and South America were staying at the immigration headquarters. Of these, 29 more foreign migrants were injured by the incident and were transferred in a delicate-serious condition to four local hospitals for immediate care,” says the INM report.

The institute also assured that investigations into the start of the fire will begin and the corresponding measures will be taken in this case.

“This authority informs that a complaint was filed with the corresponding authorities so that what happened can be investigated, and if necessary, proceed accordingly.”

The National Institute of Migration rejected the events that occurred on Monday night, and expressed its solidarity with the families of the deceased, stating that they will offer them all their support, as well as the families of the migrants who remain hospitalized in a state in serious health.
